The 6S Study Skills Coaching Package presents schools and learning establishments with a comprehensive and inspiring approach to study skills and personalised learning.

The 6S Study Skills course is a dynamic, invigorating and highly practical personalised learning coaching programme for all students needing to prepare more effectively for exams, tests and life-long learning.
It is presented as 5 X 60 minute workshops, each building upon the other to provide students with a systematic approach to learning and to empower them with a range of innovative learning techniques.
During the course, the students experience and reflect upon the effectiveness of 10 different learning tools, targeting a range of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning styles. Students are also shown how to avoid cram studying by using Positively MAD’s unique Regular Review Process.

The 6S Study Skills Coaching Package allows schools to:

This course consists of 5 one-hour workshops, which can be run over one or more days to groups of up to 30 students at a time.
Workshop 1: What is the Regular Review Process? Students are shown why cram studying is ineffective and how a process of regular review can improve learning. They are shown how to KEYWORD their notes and how to use the STORYLINK METHOD to foster VAK learning.
Workshop 2: Myth busters. Students are shown how to change their thinking regarding their abilities, and are introduced to the PORTRAIT SUMMARY POSTER as an effective visual learning tool. During this hour we focus on improving mental state and we learn why having a positive thinking state is actually healthy for you.
Workshop 3: The importance of sleep and water. Students examine the importance of keeping a regular sleep cycle and drinking lots of water daily. They explore these themes using the LANDSCAPE SUMMARY POSTER, PERSON AS LOCATION METHOD and QUICK-FIRE QUIZ learning tools.
Workshop 4: The importance of diet and exercise. Students use the RHYMING SONG METHOD and MNEMONIC NOTES tool to understand the importance of regular exercise and a healthy diet. They are also shown ways to relax using the BALLOON BREATHING approach.
Workshop 5: Towards Reflective Practice. Students are shown the ROMAN ROOM METHOD of learning, and brainstorm ways they can best support each other during the exams. They are shown how to use mind maps to create study time tables and learn how to use the topic envelope and daily lesson review pages as a means to make effective study notes. We end by using the NUMBER RHYME MEMORY HOOK system to consolidate the learning so far, and students are then given their 6S Reflective Journals to encourage them to make reflective practice a good habit.
“A Vibrant Course”
“Thank you for such a fabulous and positive session on Thursday. As expected the presenter made a great impression with the students who seemed to hang on to every word! The day was so far removed from the general expectations the students have of ‘standard revision sessions’. The day allowed the students to explore their strengths and capabilities in a fun and engaging manner. Students who started the session saying “I can’t do it”, “I’m not clever”, soon realised that with the right techniques they are a lot more capable than they give themselves credit for.
The group was a real mixed bag with some typically confident students and some quieter, more reserved students. The structure of the day allowed all students to work together and to express themselves in ways they would certainly never normally feel able to.
All the feedback we have received from the students since the day has been glowing. We have also looked at some separate evaluation forms that indicate that the day has had a positive effect on the attitude of the students towards FE and HE which is brilliant.
From a staff point of view it was great to be involved in such an engaging session, watching the student’s reactions and confident contributions was fantastic.
I hope we can work with Positively Mad again in the near future. Thank you to you all for providing such a vibrant course.”
