Course Overview
The 6S Success Course is pupil-friendly, entertaining, informative, inspiring, confidence-building, and motivates students to master a range of effective learning tools.
The course is run in 5 one-hour workshops, which build upon each other to give students a deep understanding of the 6S System.
The workshops are filled with challenging activities, fun break-state tasks, informative advice and practical, sensible ideas.
- Workshop One: What is the Regular Review Process?
- Workshop Two: Mythbusters – why our brains are amazing
- Workshop Three: The importance of sleep and diet
- Workshop Four: The importance of water and exercise
- Workshop Five: Towards Reflective Practice
The course fosters reflective practice skills and promotes success-focussed thinking. It encourages students to be more proactive concerning their learning and provides them with an independent means to self-study.
The course motivates students to regard themselves as capable and accomplished learners, and is structured around Bloom’s Taxonomy to allow them to:
- Remember and comprehend the simplicity and usefulness of a range of learning methods
- Understand how factors like sleep, diet, exercise, support, skills and mental state affect learning ability and exam success
- Apply those learning methods to information regarding whole-body exam-preparation
- Analyse each method with regards to its practicality
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the methods
- Record their findings in an in-course workbook and a pre-during-post reflection feedback form
Aims and Objectives
- To change pupils’ perception of their ability to remember and learn things
- To provide a toolkit of study strategies to be applied and assessed throughout the course
- To expose the students to current research around key areas like sleep, sustenance, sport,
support and state in order to encourage them to prepare their whole body for the exam
experience
- To inspire students to further apply the tools learnt throughout the day to their study habits
by using the Regular Review Process (a way of systematically reviewing work until it is "just
known".)
- To promote the concept of self-reflection and regular reflection
- To promote healthier lifestyle choices and a more positive attitude to exams and tests
The ultimate objective of the course is to introduce students to the concept of reflective practice,
and, in particular, to encourage the adoption of the REGULAR REVIEW PROCESS and the reflective
practice cycle.
