Developing Creative Writing is a fun and, as the title implies, creative course during which delegates can look forward to a day crammed with loads of practical and interesting activities which will enhance pupil writing skills. We begin by understanding and using the concept of freewriting to develop fluency of ideas. We then explore the story-method approach to spelling and look at how circle time activities can improve writing expression. We examine the “Why, why, why” method of story planning, and discover how prediction exercises can improve story endings. The GAMES approach to story planning is used to show how effective planning can lead to improve confidence in writing. We also take a look at how descriptive writing can be aligned to vocabulary enrichment, and consider various “maps” to enhance argumentative writing. The day ends with a consideration of grammar skills and how sentence analysis can be applied to the construction of paragraphs.
This course is suitable for all KS1 and KS2 teachers, and classroom assistants.
The presenter of this course will require a screen, a CD player, a bottle of water, and a room of eager minds. The course is suitable to groups of up to 100 teachers.
