Gripping Grammar is a highly-informative and entertaining course which teaches the fundamentals of grammar in a way that is simple to follow and easy to transfer. It shows teachers a systematic and effective process for sentence analysis, which combines knowledge of parts of speech with syntax and semantics to enable students to improve the quality of their writing and to develop a keen understanding of style. Using Positively MAD’s unique “Verb-First” approach, teachers will be able to teach grammar so that students will understand it better and be able to use it to enhance and improve their writing. This approach puts grammar in context and makes it fun (yes, fun) to teach.
This course is suitable for all teachers who wish to either improve their own understanding of grammar, or those looking for a more comprehensive approach to teaching grammar and aspects of style to their students. Teachers of Key Stage 2, 3, and 4 will find this most useful indeed.
The presenter of this course will require a screen, a CD player, a bottle of water, and a room full of eager minds. The course is suitable for groups of up to 100 teachers.
“I am Head of English at Tennyson High School, a secondary modern school in Maldethorpe, Lincolnshire.
This year my department was the most improved in the country at KS3, with a third of our pupils gaining level 5+ more than last year. This year we are predicting 75% Level 5+.
Your English course has been more than instrumental in that success: we have improved KS3 and KS4 imaginative writing skills by at least two grades/levels; many of the resources supplied are used as posters to teach specifics; speed reading has become a competitive sport!
I can honestly say that, renewing my acquaintance with your course has reminded me how inspirational and innovative your ideas are - I should be using more of them in school to improve even more!
Thank you”
