During this course, teachers can expect the following: Useful counting strategies for Key Stage1 will be explored through the Chisenbop (finger math) method and we will focus on ways to apply number skills to written problems and everyday situations. We also examine an alternative approach to teaching fractions at key stage 2, and we look at the following areas: ways to develop the concept of subtraction; fun strategies for remembering times tables; understanding the concept of division; mental metaphors for mental maths, and the use of memory systems as powerful recall tools. Teachers will have the opportunity to explore applications to other areas of the Numeracy curriculum.
